What’s Holding Your Blog Back?

08.15.07 | No Comments

Why aren’t you making a full time living blogging (if you want to, that is)? Gary Jones writes on a number of lies that hold bloggers back including “I Just Need to Know How to Do This”, “It Takes Money to Make Money”, “I Just Need to Get My Blog Out There” and “Experience Will Benefit Me”.

Personally, I think the biggest thing holding people back is their belief that they don’t have enough time. If you set up a constraint for yourself - like I will write 1-2 blog posts in no more than 30 minutes/day - then you’ve overcome your own “time” obstacle. A big challenge is that we complete tasks in the time allotted to us. If it’s a rush job, it still usually gets done, but if we give ourselves a week, we putz around for 6.5 of those 7 days until we finally get around to doing it. Deadlines and constraints are key!
