Goodbye Google PageRank?

08.15.07 | No Comments

Should Google remove the PageRank score from the Google Toolbar? That’s the discussion people are having over at Search Engine Journal, Webmaster World, and Search Engine Roundtable.

Personally, I think people place too much effort on PageRank and not enough on website content, but in general, I’m indifferent to whether having the score in the Google toolbar really matters. There are other PageRank checkers out there that are far more accurate if you’re set on finding out a site’s rank across all of Google’s servers.
What’s interesting, however, is the number of people who’d like to scrap PageRank altogether. I didn’t get the sense from reading the article that was what was proposed, but that’s how a number of commenters seem to have taken it.
