LifeHacker has a great resource for how to do mundane but necessary tasks - like renewing your drivers license or passport, changing your address, and purchasing securities through the US Treasury - online.
They even mention you can buy stamps online - though personally, I can’t imagine doing that. I use Stamps.com (aff) to print my own postage, which allows me to print exact postage for whatever letter or package I might need to sent. I used to use Pitney Bowes, but found them kind of expensive for what I needed.
