Viacom Claims Copyright Infringement On Original Artist

Christopher Knight created a video of himself and posted it on YouTube. Viacom found it and used it as a source video for their VH1 show, Web Junk 2.0. As Knight's video plays in the background, host Aries Spears provides a running commentary. Knight, who was never contacted by Viacom and never granted VH1 permission to use his material, liked the derivative work enough to post it on YouTube. 10 Free Web Analytics Tools

Read/Write Web has a list of 10 free web analytics tools other than Google Analytics... of those on the list, I only use CrazyEgg, Feedburner and MyBlogLog, so I'll have to check out the others. That said, I've been having a number of problems with Feedburner recently. Two of my feeds (produced by Wordpress) return "not found" errors more often than not and unfortunately, the only help Feedburner offers is through their support forum, which can take days to receive a reply. I love Feedburner when it works, but it's really annoying when it doesn't.

Tips for Managing Your Email

The WSJ provides some tips for dealing with email overload - much of which come from Getting Things Done author, David Allen. The article talks about making use of email filters, becoming good at making decisions about what to do with email, and checking email less frequently. Merlin Mann, San Francisco-based editor of 43Folders.com, a site focusing on personal productivity, says the key is to "get really good at deciding what the email means to you the second you open it." He says "checking email and not doing anything about it is the worst habit." I need to get better about that...

Giant panda gives birth in Austria

A giant panda in Austria has given birth at the Schoenbrunn Zoo in Austria - the first to be born in Europe in 25 years. Mother Yang Yang's pregnancy occurred naturally after she mated with Long Hui, who was also on loan from China. Check out the zoo's Panda diary. So cute!

Copyright Infringement Punishment = Banned From Using Linux

It's truly awe-inspiring to read punishments like this for copyright infringement. The guy who leaked the last Star Wars movie to the web a week before it hit theaters ended up with a 5 month jail sentence and another 5 months of home confinement - during which he'll have to install tracking software on his computer. Since he's a Linux guy and the government doesn't have tracking software for Linux, they're forcing him to switch to Windows for the duration... He should have hired Lindsay Lohan's lawyer.
